In December 2015, the regional parliament of Bremen adopted an amendment to its Licensing Act as the first federal state. In the future, discrimination at clubs on grounds of (ascribed) ethnic background, disability, sexual or gender identity and religion or belief can be punished with fines up to 5,000 €. It is also liable to prosecution if a person is discriminated against for these grounds while staying at the club or restaurant.
